4.5 - Closing Exercise
Did you have fun completing your cultural iceberg? What struck you the most as you were filling it in? I invite you to keep your cultural iceberg in front of you because it will be helpful for your next reflection exercise – writing your own story reflecting on your faith and culture.
Let’s look the current GCORR story project titled “Our Sacred Journey: Stories of Faith and Culture” to gain a better understanding of how to write our own faith and culture stories.
GCORR began this project because we believe that “every story is a sacred testament to God’s work in our lives, connecting us across different backgrounds, ethnicities and experiences” (Our Sacred Journey — GCORR).
We invite you to take about 5-10 minutes to reflect on the cultural iceberg you completed. Pay attention to the way your surface and deep culture have shaped your own faith and culture.
Then, begin writing your faith and culture story using the following prompt question:
What object or tradition relates to your cultural identity or faith story? Reflect on a picture of the object that relates to this story.
Once you finish writing your story, I invite you to publish it - maybe print it on paper - and place it somewhere special in your house or in your office at work. The goal is for you to put it in a place so that when you look at it, you can remember who you are, whose you are, and that God has made you with a unique background, story and purpose!
You may also share your story anonymously or by name on our GCORR stories website: Our Sacred Journey — GCORR. This way, we can celebrate our collective heritage and spiritual journeys together – recognizing our cultural differences grounded in our shared faith
