Session Focus

This session confronts common tropes used, mostly by white people, to deflect difficult conversations about the realities of race and racism. Calling out racism naturally evokes feelings of discomfort and defensiveness —especially when coupled with the call to address white privilege. Statements such as, “I don’t see color!” and “You’re playing the race card!” are attempts to shut down discussion. However, this session seeks to encourage people to have these necessary conversations and to lean into the work that white Christians must undertake so that we dismantle racist systems that undermine our witness and our work for God in the world.
